RAPHAEL CENDO

Raphaël Cendo (b. 1975) studied piano and then composition in Yoshihisa Taïra’s class at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, where he obtained his diploma in composition in 2000. He went on to study composition and orchestration with Allain Gaussin, and is currently in Marco Stroppa’s class at the Paris CNSM. He also studied with Brian Ferneyhough, Fausto Romitelli and Philippe Manoury.

His chamber opera Six têtes pour quatre mouvements, based on texts by Alberto Giacometti, was premiered in October 2003 at Royaumont, and was programmed in 2004 at the Lille Opera as part of the event “Lille: Cultural Capital of Europe”. In July 2004 his work Pulsing Crash for fifteen musicians was premiered by the Ensemble Intercontemporain under Peter Rundel’s direction at the Metz Arsenal.
