Artistic residence Arsenal / Cité musicale / Metz
Vampires have long been popular in film, in many different incarnations: romantic, Shakespearean and aristocratic. Nosferatu, the masterpiece by German expressionist filmmaker Murnau (1888-1931), is surrealist to the hilt and a forerunner of all horror films. The magnificent score by the young Alexis Savelief (1987), performed live as it was during the golden age of silent films, reveals the monster in all his evil splendor, rekindling the film's powerful imagery and the force of its timeless narrative.
