AMEL BRAHIM-DJELLOUL

Amel Brahim-Djelloul started her musical journey by studying the violin before she started singing. During her studies, she benefited from the teachings of Abdelhamid Belferouni, Noëlle Barker, Frantz Petri, Peggy Bouveret and Malcolm Walker. She graduated from the CNSMD in Paris.

Within William Christie’s Jardin des Voix in 2005, she performed on the most prestigious stages in the world. In 2007, she was nominated in the Révélation Lyrique (Lyric Discovery) category of the Victoires de la Musique.

Her career already gave her the opportunity to play several major roles from her repertoire, such as : Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito (Opéra national de Paris, Festival d'Aix-En-Provence), the title role in Messager’s Véronique (Théâtre du Châtelet), Nanetta in Falstaff (Théâtre des Champs- Elysées), Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Angers-Nantes Opera, Lausanne Opera), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Despina in Così fan tutte (Nice Opera), Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore (Avignon Opera), Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, Drusilla, Amore and Valletto in L'incoronazione di Poppea (Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Berliner Staatsoper, Brussel's Théâtre de la Monnaie, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra Natioanl de Paris, Lille and Dijon Operas). She was also Ninette in Prokofiev's L'Amour des Trois Oranges, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and La Princesse in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (Opéra national de Paris), Gabrielle in La Vie Parisienne (Angers-Nantes Opera), Zanetta in La Princesse de Trébizonde (Opéra de Saint-Etienne, Opéra de de Limoges), Hebe, Fatime and Fahi in Les Indes Galantes (Bordeaux, Brabican), Jacqueline in Fortunio (Grand Théâtre de Limoges), and Gontran in Une Education Manquée (New York and Washington).

Therefore she was able to work with conductors such as Alain Altinoglu, William Christie, Sir Colin Davies, Laurence Equilbey, Adam Fischer, Bernard Haïtink, René Jacobs, Kurt Masur, Philippe Jordan, Nicolas Krüger, Marc Minkowski or Christophe Rousset, and was directed on stage among others by Robert Fortune, Lukas Hemleb, Waut Koeken, Nicolas Joël, Marco Arturo Marelli, Jean- Louis Martinoty, David McVicar, Philippe Sireuil, Luca Ronconi or Emanuelle Cordoliani.

Amel Brahim-Djelloul performed on some of the major stages, in France (Opéra national de Paris, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra Comique, Nice Opera, Avignon Opera, Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau, Théâtre Musical de Besançon, Chorégies d'Orange) and abroad (Lausanne Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin, Monnaie de Bruxelles, Kennedy Center in Washington, London's Barbican, Madrid 's Auditorium , Théâtre national Algérien in Alger, Lincoln Center de New-York). She has been invited by several orchestras (Orchestre national de France, National Symphony Orchestra de Washington, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, National Philharmonic Ukrainia, Orchestre Symphonique Pasdeloup, Orchestre Symphonique National Algérien, Orchestre national d'Ile-de-France) and musical formations (Le Poème Harmonique, Les Arts Florissants, 2e2m).

Amel Brahim-Djelloul also performs with the pianist Nicolas Jouve with popular tunes or with the Amedyez Ensemble. Moreover, she participated in events designed to introduce classical music to people at large, such as the Festival Violon sur le Sable organised each summer on the beaches of Royan for 40,000 people per concert, or the Concert des Deux Rives in Strasbourg.

Proud of her origins and cautious about defending them if necessary, she wished to develop the program of her first record, edited by Ame Son, on the theme of the 1001 nights. It was well received by the press. Her second record, Amel chante la Méditerranée offers pieces from the Arab-Andalusian heritage, adapted by her brother, Rachid Brahim-Djelloul, and interpreted with the Amedyez Ensemble.

Her last recording, with Nicolas Jouve, is the program Populaires (Eloquentia), which celebrate the alliance of the folk tradition and composers as Brahms, Ravel, Canteloube, Collet, Respighi, Guridi ou Hahn.
